Off-Color Images

Normal, daylight film produces good color images in normal, bright, sunlight. However, when daylight film is used without flash, under artificial light, color balance problems occur. Artificial light is most commonly produced by standard light bulbs (tungsten) or fluorescent lights, although it is not limited to those.

When daylight film is exposed by tungsten light, the discolored image appears yellow/orange or reddish. When exposed by common fluorescent lights, the discolored image generally appears greenish.

The color shift can be corrected by using daylight film and flash, by using tungsten balanced film with tungsten lighting, or by using filters to correct the color as nearly as possible to the proper light balance of the film.

Note: If possible, avoid lighting your images with mixed light sources.
